About Me: In General

Hobbies: Taxing people, Guild Wars, occasional bouts of Drinking.

Personal Quote: Make sure your taxes are in order, or i'm coming to get you.

Any Other Remarks?: I've been the on-off leader off this crazy bunch of people since I joined as a young keen Magestorm player. Since then I think what we've built is pretty respectable. We're not always the most active guild out there, but heck, we outlasted every other Magestorm Guild, so thats got to count for somthing right?

Everyone in SF (yes even Cow) is extremely cool and its been a pleasure to know each of them, in some cases thats over 7 years now.

I work for Revenue and Customs in the UK. Yeah a taxman. Someone's got to eh?

My Guilds

I originally joined the AOL Version of Fallen Angels (FA) in Magestorm. I left shortly after their decision to merge with the Lords of Power to form LAW. I came to SF as a 'Captain', and by the end of the month, I was in charge. I've been part of other guilds in other games. In DAoC I was a member of True Fellowship and Mostly Harmless on Morgan La Fey. I am currently also a member of Eternus Love, one of the kiSu guilds (European based) in Guild Wars.

Joining Strike Force

I joined because the guild had recently come under some new leadership, and showed signs of wanting to come out of a spell of inactivity. When that started to go wrong, there was a roster full of people that wanted to know what to do next. I emerged and gave them leadership, and a direction. The rest is history. Do I sound pompous yet?

My achievements

Leading SF to absolutely zero tournament or competition wins! We placed second or 'runners up' in so many that there's almost too many to recount. The most famous of which was the BFF (Battle for Folenn) in Magestorm. I resigned from leadership before the end. Being part of the team in Guild Wars that played against the developers in E3 2005 and getting my 'Guild Wars Cap' is probably the only achievement with a physical prize to take away.

My goals

To see an SF Guild regaining its rightful place towards the top end of the Guild Wars Ladder. For the future, I would like to see a continuation of SF to pursue competative gaming. I doubt very much i'll be an actual part of any team that does generate success, but even so, to hopefully be responsible for 'making it happen' - would sit quite well with me.

PvE

In Guild Wars i've still got a ton of titles to grind out in prep for GW2. Currently at 9 max only, but a lot of them have been worked on at the same time, and hopefully I can get them done soon.

PvP

I hope to continue playing with kiSu in order to improve my own PvP skills, and contribute to the development of I SF I, our dedicated ladder team.

Other gaming experience

I've been a Nintendo fanboi ever since I got an SNES in 1993. If you're thinking I started into gaming late, then you're wrong, as I had an Atari 2600 when I was about 5 or 6, and an Amstrad CPC when I was about 8. True that wasn't really a gaming machine, but it did have some really great games ported to it. I'm probably one of the only people who has the Amstrad version of Lemmings. On Tape. While we're on Lemmings, anyone who says the Amiga version is the 'definitive' one really hasn't played the Acorn Archimedes version. The music on that version is awesome, and Lemmings was probably the game that caught me off guard in terms of myself being a fan of game music. I suddenly became aware that games could sound as well as they could look, and i've been heavily into both original game scores and remixes (particularly those from www.ocremix.org). When I got my SNES, I soon became a fan of artists such as Koji Kondo, Hiroki Kikuta, Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu and Hajime Hirasawa. However, it was the game Secret of Evermore that really spoke to me in terms of a brilliant sounding game. It was of course Jeremy Soule's first game, I think he was 19 at the time? He of course would go onto score many other games, including Guild Wars - yet the original Secret of Evermore holds a strange place in my heart. Storyline wise, it was a strange almost child story, but had so much darkness that was amplified by the ambient soundtrack combined of natural noises and spooky motifs.

More from Rom's gaming history and stuff to follow.

Its a Scary World Out there

Oh Hai2u. So basically, i'm Rom. I am about as n00b as it gets when it comes to Wiki's. I can just about correct a spelling mistake on an article, thats about as technical as I can get atm. I'm taking some time to learn the ins and outs of Wikimarkup and stuff. However, me learning the stuff will be a heck of a lot easier if I can get some help from people who know Wikis (cough Xeer cough), so I can watch how things are done. Plus the more people I have helping, the faster we can bring something to the guild as a whole which hopefully will be more useful.

Some would say that Wiki's and web 2.0 in general are leading to "identikit" websites with no personality or unique design. I think theres plenty of scope for a wiki to look unique. At the end of the day, if you can get the information you want, who the hell cares what it looks like? I'm not suggesting this wiki will be an eventual replacement for our main website, but I do have to admit that it makes ensuring things are up to date, a heck of a lot easier if I can rely on others to pick up my slack. Hey, I have a real life believe it or not, although its limited mainly to my waking up, doing 7 hours at work and then returning home, thats besides the point.

I do hope this project will be useful and won't just be 'abandoned' like many of our others previous. I'm going to put maximum effort into getting it off the ground and I hope you guys will assist.

Things to do:

  • More Historical Documents
  • Complete the former member list
  • Get in Jeds van
  • Profit.

My Characters

Its a little known fact that I do construct at least partial storylines for a lot of the characters I create. A lot of how I developed the characters is influenced by events that happen outside the games too. It can seem a little strange, but if you take a look at my rough first edit of Rom Burns you'l see what I mean. I'm not the world's best writer, so you'l have to excuse my style. :p
