So, I checked in with the project, just to see what was going on. Apparently Sorien has stepped up calls for donations as they are investing in a dedicated server, the shared plan wasn't working out so well. Consequence was that their bills went from $40 per month, to over $200. Its very difficult for me to donate for something that isn't finished, but I understand where they are coming from that if they buy months in bulk, it takes the price down. Apparently they now have enough for the initial investment, but I am still going to hold off because although I don't doubt Rise's commitment, I'm not sure how much I rate Sorien's.

Rise has been working hard - Tornado and Boulder are WORKING PROPERLY, hopefully they will start a Beta period soon.

Ok now onto my rant.

I was contacted back in September, by a member of the development team, and asked if I would like to contribute new versions of the MS Music, based on the work I did with Technical Tavern. Now while I was flattered, my music talent is severely limited (I can do A, D and E on the guitar :p) and my messing around with FL Studio that one time, was just that, messing around. In any case, Sorien was very interested in getting the music updated, pending the ability to get some sort of MP3 support integrated (he has since gone on the record to say if not MP3, then WAV support could be implemented). I'd also suggested asking Skid if he would be interested, as far as I am aware that hasn't happened either, I don't know if they tried. Everything was kept 'hush hush' at this point. I thought it be only right to put together an 'audition piece', and this was only because I was personally asked. My 'style' if you can call it that, is so far removed from the atmosphere of Magestorm that I could feel, even from myself, that it was, kinda wrong. Anyway, I submitted the audition piece (which received immediate positive and constructive feedback) and was assured it would be shared with the rest of the development team for a decision.

This is where it gets frustrating. I then heard nothing, nothing at all. Tried contacting them, and zip. Not even a 'thanks, but we've decided not to use your work'. Now there is no queue of people with 'musical talent' wanting to step up, and its at the point now where several 'mixes' of the music have been posted up by one chap named Shiin. They're not bad admittedly (I think Skid's are better in terms of closeness to the original), but what has frustrated me is that he has had instant feedback from the developers, whereas I had none. I don't know where the breakdown in communication has happened, and to be honest I don't want to post anything about it there because I don't want to look like some bitter 'loser'. I had fun making what I did, even if musically its probably not everyones tastes lol.

So i'm 'breaking the silence' here as it were, and am publicly putting out the audition piece. Sorien.org is down at the moment or I would have posted the link to the new mixes by Shiin.

Been away from the boards for awhile and just stumbled on this now. Granted I've never been in that situation, I'd be pissed if an opportunity like that came up and you put the time and effort in only to hear nothing. I don't remember getting an email about anything music related with Magestorm, I have wanted to remake the songs, but I just keep postponing it because of other ideas I get (and work). Honestly I remember being thrown by suprise when I heard your remake because I had no idea you messed around with anything music related.

For the newer remake I was pretty impressed on how all the notes seemed dead on and the different synth patterns you chose. I would look into incorportating some build ups or tweaking some of the transitions for each part only so it doesn't feel so abrupt when you go from a quiet part into a louder synth heavy part. Nicely Done though. How long did this take?
